Deciding to seek professional mental health treatment is a courageous step toward recovery. However, it can also be frightening when you are unsure what to expect. At Harmony Hills, we understand the fears and uncertainty of entering a mental health facility. Here, you can be assured that our caring and compassionate intake specialists will guide you through each step of the process and answer all your questions.
The mental health treatment admissions process will vary between different facilities. After evaluating your needs, our admissions team will provide the information you need to understand the ins and outs of daily life in our holistic residential mental health treatment program and what to bring and not bring when you come. You and your family will also learn about the continuum of care, the stages of recovery, and what to expect from treatment. Reach out online or call 855.494.0357 for more enrollment information.
What to Expect When Enrolling in Mental Health Treatment
The admission assessment and review is the first step toward enrolling in mental health treatment at Harmony Hills. You will complete a questionnaire to be reviewed by our medical and clinical teams. Our multidisciplinary treatment team works together to create a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan to meet your unique needs.
Before admission, we will review this plan with you and your family to ensure that you understand your course of treatment and have the opportunity to ask questions. This way, you are prepared for what lies before you come through the door. We will also:
- Verify your insurance
- Arrange for any payment plans
- Arrange pre-case management services (i.e., FMLA or legal requirements)
- Advise you of what you will and won’t need in the treatment
- Schedule your official intake time and date
What to Bring and Not Bring to Mental Health Treatment
Knowing what is needed and what is allowed or not is one of the biggest concerns people have. You will need to provide contact information for your primary care physician and an emergency contact person. If applicable, you also need this information for attorneys and human resource representatives. You will also need:
- Photo ID
- Insurance card
- One credit or debit card
- Prescription card
- Medications
With laundry facilities on-site, we recommend bringing up to two weeks’ worth of appropriate clothing, including a bathing suit and sneakers. You will also need personal care items and toiletries. Weapons of any kind, drugs, and alcohol are prohibited. Things you should leave at home include:
- Laptops or computers
- Jewelry
- Cash
- Aerosol products, mouthwash, perfume, and cologne
- Inappropriate clothing or reading material
- Food
Remember that your time in residential mental health treatment will be highly structured. Still, you will have some downtime, so appropriate reading material and journals are encouraged. Many clients choose to bring an MP3 player to listen to music, podcasts, or audiobooks during downtime. Though you will not have access to it, do bring your cell phone, which will be safely stored. Cigarettes and vape products are allowed but must be in their original sealed packaging at admission.
