Paying for Mental Health Treatment with Florida Health Care Plans

Florida Health Care Plans (FHCP) has provided quality insurance coverage to individuals, families, and employers for over 48 years. In addition to having their own FHCP Care Centers, Florida Health Care Plans insurance works with over 9,000 providers.

FHCP works with mental health care providers like us to offer straightforward, easy-to-understand, affordable, and comprehensive coverage for a range of issues, including, but not limited to, the following:

The exact level of coverage FHCP provides depends upon your specific plan. At Harmony Hills, we know that understanding your insurance benefits can be confusing in the best of times, let alone when you are experiencing a mental health crisis, which is why we’re here to help handle that for you.

Questions to Ask About Your FHCP Insurance Coverage

Before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2008, many insurance companies imposed limits on access to mental health care that was more restrictive than physical health care. State and federal parity laws remove these limits by requiring insurance companies to cover mental health and substance use at the same level as medical needs. Further, insurance companies are no longer allowed to deny coverage for preexisting conditions.

That said, different policies offer different levels of coverage. The following are some essential points to consider when determining your insurance benefits:

  • Provider networks – Insurance companies have a list of in-network providers. Using an out-of-network provider will cost more money out-of-pocket. You can find a complete list of in-network providers on your insurance company’s website. Harmony Hills is not in-network with Florida Health Care Plans.
  • Providers – Be sure the provider you are considering accepts FHCP insurance and find out if they bill the insurance directly or if you must pay upfront and submit a claim to get reimbursement.
  • Copays – A copay is what you pay out-of-pocket for a service. For example, you may pay $20 to see your doctor while the insurance pays the rest. Parity laws prohibit mental health copays from being more than medical copays.
  • Deductibles – A deductible is an amount you must pay before the insurance payments begin. Deductibles can range from $500 to $5000 or more. Knowing your deductible is essential so you can plan for your out-of-pocket costs.

A Harmony Hills intake specialist can guide you if you have questions about your FHCP insurance coverage and work with you to make arrangements to cover your out-of-pocket treatment cost. We are in-network with Community Care Network Optum VA, Aetna, and Certified with Tricare.
